Beginning American Sign Language Conversation Skills   NEW!

In this course we will begin to learn skills needed to converse in American Sign Language by learning the alphabet and numbers and then building our ASL vocabulary and sentence structure knowledge. We will focus on how to share about ourselves and how to learn about others using our newly acquired ASL skills. We will have short amounts of time for questions and discussion, but mostly we will strive to have our hands busy using sign language, with some limited time in English for clarification. We will learn vocabulary skills together in a big group and practice at times in pairs. When we work in pairs, the instructor will encourage class members to pair up with a new person each time. We will watch some videos of members of the Deaf Community to have models of how native users of the language may express themselves. We may learn a song or two in ASL. This is a class for beginners so no prior knowledge is required, just a willingness to explore.
