This course will teach beginning gardeners and those new to the Rogue Valley how to grow vegetables year-round from seed selection to seed saving. Our emphasis is on science-based information and “how to” techniques to enable students to achieve a successful garden their first year. More experienced gardeners may learn new techniques to improve their vegetable growing skills. Students will be asked to read assigned chapters of the “Garden Guide for the Rogue Valley: Vegetables, Berries and Melons” by the Jackson County Master Gardener Association (OSU Extension) before each session. This course has been offered previously but will have some new content this year. Instructional methods will include Power Point slides, instructional videos, live demonstrations, and Q&A. Before each class, students will receive a syllabus and bibliography of additional resources for in-depth reading. Each class will be recorded for students.
NOTE: There will be no class meeting on Memorial Day, Monday May 29. “Vegetable Gardening in the Rogue Valley: Vegetables, Berries and Melons,” 2017 edition by the Jackson County Master Gardener Association of OSU Extension Service is available at local garden stores for about $20 or may be borrowed from the Jackson County Library.
